Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of financial literacy on risky credit behavior, with financial self-efficacy as an intervening variable, among Generation Z customers of Home Credit Indonesia (HCI) in Surabaya who have taken out multipurpose loans. The background of this study is based on the increasing access to digital credit and the low level of financial literacy among Gen Z, which encourages risky credit behavior. This study employs a quantitative approach using purposive sampling, involving 160 respondents. The data analysis technique used is Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that financial literacy has a significant effect on risky credit behavior and financial self-efficacy. Financial self-efficacy also has a significant effect on risky credit behavior. However, no significant mediating effect of financial self-efficacy was found in the relationship between financial literacy and risky credit behavior. These findings indicate that improving financial literacy must be accompanied by strengthening self-efficacy to mitigate risky credit behavior.
